Town well

Abbot Berthold Dietmayr donated the Kolomanibrunnen well to the market town in 1722. St Coloman, son of an Irish king, is depicted here with a staff and pilgrim’s hat. On the way to Jerusalem he was mistaken for a spy and hanged from an elderberry bush. His incorrupt corpse was moved by Henry I of Babenberg to the ducal residence at Melk on 13 October 1014. The Kolomanikirtag is still held in celebration on that date each year.
